Building blocks available from our Data Handling Systems form the basis for the payload control product range. The products are often tailored for their mission, so use of existing solutions is of importance for cost and quality reasons.
RUAG Space has supplied instrument control units for numerous European scientific and earth observation satellites, and high-performance processing subsystems for Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and other instruments. Utilizing its expertise in electrical interface engineering and data buses, the company also built the NOAA Interface Unit that adapts the interfaces of eight US instruments from NOAA to European interface standards for the METOP satellites.
RUAG Space offers expertise in digital signal processing. The company supplies the digital payload control units for the Inmarsat 4 series of broadband telecommunication satellites and the Navigation Signal Generator for the European global navigation satellite system, Galileo including the Instrument Control function (ICU). The ICU function can be delivered as stand-alone or as an integrated part of the instument as in the GPS POD receivers. We also supply the Data Processing Subsystem (DPS) for the Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI) instrument flown on METOP. Currently a small cost efficient processor-free design is developed for the Sentinel-1 SAR Tile Control representing the innovative and yet quality focused capability of RUAG Space in the area of electronics design.
