RUAG creates new position for cooperation with the Swiss Federal Government

The RUAG Board of Directors has appointed Alexandre Schmidt as Vice President Owner Relations. In this newly created role, he will be responsible for all contact with the firm’s sole shareholder, the Swiss Federal Government. He will start his new job on 1 September 2017....

A recurring topic in recent months has been the complex relationships between the federal government and companies. RUAG takes the demands of politicians and its shareholder very seriously, and so has decided to strengthen its relationships and dialogue with the federal institutions by creating a dedicated position.

As Vice President Owner Relations, Alexandre Schmidt (47) will assume responsibility for all contact with the federal authorities. In this role, Alexandre Schmidt will report directly to the Chairman of the Board of Directors, assigned on an administrative basis to the CEO. Urs Breitmeier, CEO RUAG Group, underlines the importance of this appointment: "I am extremely delighted about this strong addition to our Group. His broad experience in politics and federal government will help RUAG continue to develop its strategic direction."

Alexandre Schmidt previously held the office of Treasurer and Councillor (executive) in the City of Berne. Prior to that, he served as Director of the Swiss Alcohol Board and as assistant to two Federal Councillors.

The Board of Directors and the Group Executive Board of RUAG are delighted to have found a well-qualified person for this strategically vital role and would like to wish Alexandre Schmidt a great start to his career at RUAG.
