The LNAs are equipped with preselection filters, bandpass or multiband-pass, custom made to different bandwidths, rejection and group delay requirements. Notches at radio frequency interferer frequencies can be added, for example Search & Rescue, as well as broadband low-pass filtering of e.g. X-band signals. The units can be delivered with black surface treatment for increased thermal emissivity when needed.
To date, more than a hundred flight units have been delivered.
At Ka-Band RUAG Space can supply a range of different Low Noise Amplifiers, single LNAs up to 4 in a multipack configuration. The LNA chain is implemented as a fully MMIC and thin film based design in a hermetic LNA hybrid and on a generic design approach for our customers, i.e. the design is made to accommodate different gain options for various commercial satellite missions.
The LNAs can be supplied with either primary power for bus voltages between 28 to 100V or with secondary power together with a centralized power supply. The LNA units have excellent noise figure.
The Ka-Band LNA covers the 27 to 31 GHz frequency band with an initial gain setting range of 40 to 60 dB. Typical noise figure of 1.7 dB (at ambient temperature) using low noise MHEMT LNA MMIC for the front stage. The multipacks consist of separate LNA channels, each LNA are powered with a separate power board. The power boards are mechanical separated from each other with isolated chassis compartments. One LNA channel consists of the following main parts/functions:
- Ka-Band LNA Hybrid
- Input waveguide isolator (WR28 or WR34)
- Power Board and Gain Setting/Temperature Compensation
- Mechanical chassis
